Inspired by the legend of the historic 3Tre of Madonna di Campiglio.

3TRE Orienteering is an international orienteering event scheduled from 26 to 28 June 2026 in the forests framed by the Brenta Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The event is expected to attract over 2,000 athletes from all over the world, ready to explore woods and mountains with map and compass in hand, in a competition that combines endurance, strategy and in-depth knowledge of the terrain.

But what is the meaning behind the name 3tre Orienteering? The title is no coincidence: it is a clear tribute to the iconic alpine ski race “3Tre”, which took place just a few days ago in Madonna di Campiglio with its 72nd edition in January, as part of the Alpine Ski World Cup.

The 3Tre, one of the oldest and most prestigious slalom races in the world, dates back to 1950, when it was originally conceived as a competition made up of three different ski events (downhill, giant slalom and slalom special) held in various locations across Trentino—hence the name “3Tre”. Over time, the event found its permanent stage on the Canalone Miramonti slope in Campiglio and established itself as a must-attend stop on the international racing calendar.

Drawing on this historical and cultural connection, the organizers of the new orienteering event chose the name 3tre Orienteering to evoke the same deep ties to the territory and the sporting heritage of the 3Tre, paying tribute to Madonna di Campiglio’s sporting tradition in a discipline other than skiing.

In this way, 3tre Orienteering becomes not only a high-level orienteering competition, but also a symbol of continuity and enhancement of the Alpine landscape, bringing together past and present in a single sporting and cultural experience in the heart of the Dolomites.
