The 3Tre Orienteering is a new project launched in Madonna di Campiglio that brings together orienteering and the town’s strong tradition of alpine skiing.
The inspiration comes from the 50th anniversary of Ingemar Stenmark’s first victory on the legendary 3Tre slope, celebrated this year. To mark the occasion, the organizers of the 5 Days wanted to create a symbolic meeting between two Swedish legends: Ingemar Stenmark, alpine skiing icon, and Jörgen Mårtensson, multiple-time orienteering world champion. It’s a symbolic embrace between two sports that share passion, technique, and a deep connection to the mountains—sparking a sporting and cultural partnership between skiing and orienteering.
From this spark, the 3Tre Orienteering was born, with its first edition scheduled for June 2026. The hope is that Stenmark himself will be there to greet the orienteers and celebrate this new sporting adventure alongside them.
The name is a deliberate reference to the historic “3Tre” skiing format, which originally featured three races in three locations. The 3Tre Orienteering will follow the same structure: three races over three days, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Brenta Dolomites.
The program includes:
-
Friday, June 26: Night race in Madonna di Campiglio. A spectacular debut with the start at the Canalone Miramonti arena—home of the historic World Cup slalom—and the finish in the scenic Piazza Sissi, in the heart of town.
-
Saturday, June 27: Grostè/Spinale. The second race will take place on the panoramic Grostè plateau, in the Spinale area (southern part of the map), an area still untouched by orienteering events.
-
Sunday, June 28: Pradalago/Patascoss. The third and final race will be another forest event, starting from Pradalago and finishing in an arena that recreates the epic finale of the Canalone Miramonti.
The 3Tre Orienteering promises to be an event that brings together athletes, enthusiasts, and curious newcomers, offering a new vision of orienteering—spectacular, engaging, and deeply rooted in the local landscape and its history.
